Crete, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is one of Greece’s largest and most populous islands. It is one of the largest producers of olives, grapes, vegetables, and oranges. In recent years, it has witnessed a proliferation of hothouses where South Asian migrants such as the Pakistanis find easy employ. Olive harvesting season, from late October – January, seasonally draws Indian and Pakistani men to undertake this work. Crete also has a large food-processing and construction industry where most South Asian migrants who stay in Crete find work.
